About Suhaimi Fadzir

Suhaimi Fadzir was born in Gerik, Perak, and trained in art and architecture at Washington University. Over a career spanning four decades, he has developed a singular practice he calls archipainting — a method that merges architectural thinking with painting to produce large-scale, three-dimensional works that extend outward from the wall. Drawing on salvaged materials, found objects, and discarded items, his assemblages carry a strong undercurrent of social commentary and environmental consciousness.

In 2010, his series Recycled Toys and Found Objects was shown alongside the work of celebrated photographer Ansel Adams in the United States. He has since exhibited internationally at the Saatchi Gallery in London and the Dublin Biennale, among other venues. More recently, Suhaimi established Studio Puyu, a working studio and creative retreat in Langkawi, where he continues to produce experimental installations from reclaimed materials. His work occupies a rare space between sculpture, painting, and architecture — making him one of the more distinctive voices in contemporary Malaysian art.
