About Ismail Latiff

Born in 1955 in Melaka, Ismail Latiff is a titan of Malaysian abstract art, renowned for his ethereal and vibrant "dreamscapes." A graduate of the Mara Institute of Technology (UiTM) with further experience in the advertising industry, Latiff transitioned into fine arts to explore the spiritual and mystical dimensions of the Southeast Asian landscape. His signature style is instantly recognizable by the presence of a "circle" or "moon" at the center of his compositions, symbolizing ultimate balance and cosmic harmony. Using a sophisticated "confetti-like" swirl of acrylics and mixed media, his paintings create a sense of floating movement, where the viewer is invited to drift into a world of folklore, myth, and deep tranquility.

As an investment-grade Malaysian contemporary artist, Latiff has a prolific record with iconic collections such as the Tioman Biru, Magic in the Sky, and Festival of Inner Jungle series. His most recent works (2024–2026), including the Desa Penari and Guardian of the Galaxy series, continue to dominate local and international auctions like Henry Butcher and Sotheby's, with prices consistently reflecting his blue-chip status. A winner of the Frank Sullivan Award and the Young Illustrator of Asia in Tokyo, his masterpieces are held in the permanent collections of the National Art Gallery Malaysia and the Singapore Art Museum. For collectors, an Ismail Latiff original is more than a painting; it is a timeless gateway into a magical, meditative universe.
